My Way is the Highway

American Studies Senior Thesis, May 2018

My Way is the Highway was my American Studies senior thesis: a culmination of the topics that I found interesting in my four years of studying film and history. The highway is a subject that is ubiquitous in American culture, our landscape, and modern way of life. Do you have a favorite road trip memory, song, or movie? How do you get to work every day? I chose animation as my medium because I am passionate about the aesthetics of stop motion, and because I wanted to tell a cohesive story across time and space. I also wanted to visually emphasize that the highway, like animation, is a constructed and explicitly unnatural experience.

My Way is the Highway was nominated for the UT Co-op Mitchell Award, and the UT College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Thesis Award.

My Way is the Highway premiered at the 2018 Suburbinale Film Festival in Austria.
